Wine Tasting + Collector Talk

July 14, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$25

Mark your calendar to attend a fun and engaging summer evening sipping wine at MOV.

Enjoy this wine tasting event as the Ganton and Larsen Prospect Winery pays tribute to the Okanagan Valley’s rich and colourful  history and geography. The wines pay homage to the Ganton and Larsen families, original and longstanding land-owning partners of the winery. The winery sources grapes from vineyards across the Okanagan Valley, allowing for diversity, consistency and distinctiveness.
Mingle with friends and the community and listen to a presentation by local corkscrew collectorsWayne Meadows and Sal Robinson as they share a brief illustrated history of corkscrews, their purpose and development around the world – it’s not all about opening wine!
Once upon a time one needed a corkscrew to open shoe polish, motor oil, mouthwash, ketchup and perfume in addition to beer, whisky and wine. Wayne and Sal’s presentation will feature photographs as well as live examples of a variety of tools and contraptions for opening bottles. They will describe how collecting corkscrews has been the impetus for restoring a heritage house, researching and publishing two books, and travelling around the world for corkscrew fellowship and treasure hunting.
We look forward to seeing you during this captivating evening which showcases wine and collector items along with the stories and interesting lives of remarkable collectors.
Throughout the evening you will have the opportunity to explore the new exhibition All Together Now: Vancouver Collectors and Their Worlds – on view at MOV from June 23, 2016 to January 8, 2017. Taking inspiration from the eclectic cabinets of curiosities belonging to 17th century scientists, All Together Now exhibition features floor-to-ceiling displays of rare and unconventional objects from 20 diverse collectors, along with portraits of each collector and numerous tactile experiences for visitors. Interactive elements include playing pinball machines, trying on corsets, listening to long-forgotten bands, and handling historical artifacts, among others. To have your collection included in this exhibition, share it on social media with #mycollectionatMOV.
