Join us on September 21st for a Walking Tour of UniverCity on Burnaby Mountain!
Join us and Gordon Harris, President and CEO, SFU Community Trust, for a tour focused on the ongoing transformation of the UniverCity community atop Burnaby Mountain.
Currently home to 5,000 residents, and preparing for another 4,000 or more by the year 2021, UniverCity has already received more than 30 major awards – locally, nationally and internationally – for best practices and achievement in planning and sustainability. The tour will include: the first LEED Gold retrofitted school in British Columbia (University Highlands Elementary), the Burnaby Mountain District Energy System, homes ranging from family-friendly townhomes to concrete high-rises (including lock-off suites), and a bustling High Street commercial neighbourhood with mixed used developments. Sustainability, master-planning, and community building will be featured in this tour.
Gordon Harris is an urban planner, development strategist and real estate market analyst. As president and chief executive officer of SFU Community Trust, he leads the development of UniverCity, SFU’s award-winning sustainable community near Vancouver, BC.
With a lifelong passion for sustainable practice, Gordon also provides land-use planning and development advice to clients across Canada as well as internationally.
Joining Gordon on the tour of UniverCity is Dale Mikkelsen, Vice President, Development with SFU Community Trust.
Following the tour, we will gather at Club Ilia for an informal social.
*We will meet in the lobby of the SFU Community Trust office (#130-8960 University High Street, Burnaby) before the tour (at 3:20pm).
