Join us for this members only tour of The Duke by Edgar Development to learn about the building’s unique design, as well as the challenges and opportunities of developing purpose-built rental in Vancouver.

This 14-storey development, targeting LEED Gold status, is located at Broadway and Kingsway, and will feature 201 rental units, 3,976 sq ft of ground floor retail, and a dramatic art installation suspended above the building’s main entrance titled “Rain” by local artist Khan Lee. The Duke was approved by the City of Vancouver’s Rental 100 program, which provides incentives to developers for purpose-built rental buildings. The Rental 100 program aims to create 5,000 new units of market rental housing by 2021.

Following the tour, we will gather in the rooftop amenity lounge for an informal social.

Speakers:

Jasmean Toor
Jasmean Toor is the Vice President of Real Estate Finance at Edgar Development. Jasmean focuses on finance and development, with broad expertise in project financing, financial analysis, development management, and assisting with acquisitions and partnerships. Prior to joining Edgar Development in 2011, Jasmean worked with a national commercial mortgage brokerage firm underwriting and funding construction and term mortgages for retail, office, industrial, and multi-family condos and rental apartments.

Jasmean is an active member of the commercial real estate and development community, currently sitting on the Board of Directors for CREW Vancouver as Past President as well as on the Board of Variance for the City of Vancouver. Jasmean holds a business degree from Western University.

Robert Horvath
Robert Horvath is Vice President, Construction for Edgar Development Corp. He is responsible for all construction activities which currently includes work in British Columbia and Alberta. He is a graduate of the BCIT Building Technology Program and holds a Diploma in Business Finance and Investment Management.  Robert brings 24 years of construction management expertise to Edgar and is responsible for design, budgeting, scheduling and overall project success. His past projects include residential, hotel, commercial and institutional work.  He has managed the construction of over 2,250 residential units and constructed over $400 million in value.

Mark Ostry
Mark Ostry is a Principal of Acton Ostry Architects with professional registration in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario with National Council of Architectural Registration Board Certification.

Mark has been a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada since 1991 and was awarded Fellowship in 2008. He is a member of the Canada Green Building Council and the Canadian Passive House Institute.

Mark is currently a member of the Squamish Nation Urban Design Panel. He served two terms on the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel and also served on the University of British Columbia Advisory Urban Design Panel. Mark is a Past President and Chair of the Board of Pacific Cinematheque where he served on the Board for seventeen years.

Alan Davies
Alan is an Associate Principal of Acton Ostry Architects, an Architect AIBC and a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. Alan received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Manitoba. He has served on the New Westminster Consultative Design Committee, the Architectural Institute of British Columbia Communications Committee, the National Sustainable Building Design Advisor Program, and the Gastown Historic Area Planning Committee. Alan is a volunteer mentor for the University of British Columbia School of Architecture.
