Stanley Park Totem Poles

July 24, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Author and photographer Vickie Jensen has spent over 40 years photographing and documenting totem poles. She spent three months with Nisga’a artist Norman Tait documenting the process of bringing a log to life. And she has followed the controversial history of totem pole collecting and display in Stanley Park, including the most recent additions of Salish carving and a bronze statue.

Join Jensen as she traces the history and evolution of totem poles and Northwest Coast Aboriginal carving culture. Learn more about the carving of totem poles and how these cultural icons annually draw 3.5 million people to Stanley Park. Afterwards, Jensen will sign copies of her latest book Totem Poles and the Lure of Stanley Park.
