SALA Lecture | Louis Benech

November 4, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Annual Garden Design Lecture by Louis Benech, Paris, France.
Louis Benech is a French gardener and landscaper who gained international recognition with the restoration of the Tuileries Gardens in 1990.
After graduating with a law degree, Louis decided to work as an agricultural worker for Hillier Nurseries and Garden Centres in England. He was then employed as a gardener for a private property in Normandy, before finally breaking into garden design in 1985.
He has worked on over 300 public and private parks and gardens across Europe, North and South America, North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, including the Elysee Gardens, the Quai d’Orsay, and the main square of the National Archives in Paris.
With each of his projects, Louis aims to achieve a harmony between the new design and its architectural and natural environment. He combines a wish to create long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing gardens with a desire to respect a site’s history and eco-system, while also considering its future upkeep.
Louis is a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, established by the French Minister of Culture to recognize significant contributions to the arts, literature, or the promotion of these fields.
