My Gallery Is…

Art Galleries designed by Queen Mary Elementary School students.

For two weeks, Presentation House Gallery transformed into Gallery School, as part of an educational program designed in partnership with Beyond the Classroom and teachers Jenny Thayer and Kathryn Larsen. Given behind-the-scenes access to this storied cultural institution, Queen Mary Elementary students learned about art-making, curation, local history from staff and invited speakers. For this hands-on immersion, they used the gallery as a classroom and studio from which to respond with writing and drawing. On their final day, they visited the site of the new Polygon Gallery where Director/Curator Reid Shier challenged them to design an art gallery of their own. We are delighted to present their architectural drawings and models in this exhibition.
