Is Design Thinking Exclusive to Designers?

May 9, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

When professionals outside the design field talk and teach Design Thinking, many designers feel something has been taken from them. But should designers feel this way? And should non-designers talk and teach Design Thinking? This talk will encourage the audience to participate in a conversation, where the conventional idea of Design is challenged, and a wider understanding of the future role of designers in a complex and digital world will be explored.

Speaker Bio: Victor Martinez Ph.D. is an instructor and researcher at the Wilson School of Design. He is an industrial designer with 20 years of experience in the transportation sector, having worked for brands such as Ferrari and Audi. In 2009, he co-founded Ecopilia, a spin-off company from his research on biodegradable materials. He has 10 years of experience teaching industrial design, and as a researcher in the fields of biodegradable materials, alternative urban mobility and systems thinking for design.
