Connexions

June 8, 2016 - June 11, 2016

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) heads to Nanaimo B.C. with a 2016 Festival of Architecture that is designed to engage the public as well as architects from across the country.

The four-day Festival celebrates the theme of CONNEXIONS within a landscape that exemplifies the concept. Architects connecting with each other, and, through a series of special events open to the public, architects will connect with the Vancouver Island community.

Connexions

CONNEXIONS begins with a panel of eminent architects. They will explore how architectural design shapes the places where we live and work while responding to the social and cultural heritage and the environment. Each speaker will present their views, the audience will ask questions, and together they will generate ideas for the following day’s charrette.

CONNEXIONS continues the conversation at Diana Krall Plaza, where the public will have the opportunity to view charrette participants envisioning creative solutions for an architectural and planning challenge in Nanaimo.

CONNEXIONS concludes with a round-table discussion of the charrette results. Speakers will address the political, social and cultural factors that influence successful implementation of design ideas and the creation of meaningful architecture that connects with its community.

The 2016 RAIC Festival of Architecture –CONNEXIONS– takes place at the Nanaimo Convention Centre, June 8-11, 2016.
