CCW Speaker Event – Using Social Media to Engage your Community

January 26, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$60

On Tuesday, 26th January 2016 at The Holiday Inn and Suites Vancouver Downtown, we will welcome Mary Chow,  Associate Architect at HDR CEI Architecture, to speak to us about using social media to engage your community. Mary may be familiar to many of you as she was our architectural mentor at last year’s Speed Mentoring event!

The tools of communication have seen a remarkable transformation in recent years and as more and more individuals begin to embrace these tools, the manner in which we work and design and how we reach out to our community is being impacted.

Social Media can be used to draw support for new projects, additions or renovations and to ensure the longevity of a facility. It allows the possibility of communicating and receiving feedback from a large number of community members by non-traditional means.

Yet Social Media can only be effective if implemented thoughtfully. Developing and executing a strong social media program can result in community groups and stakeholders that are well-informed, bought in, and can give valuable feedback. Effectively applying a social media strategy can ensure a new program or facility is fully used. But because the technology is still relatively new and constantly changing, not all applications necessarily prove to be successful. Society is playing catch up with the systems that need to be in place to ensure a positive outcome.

Real-world case studies can assist with understanding basic and advanced strategies to reach large audiences to get their participation. Successes and challenges of this type of social media program can inform and show the best methods in which to apply social media to all types of projects.

Mary’s presentation will cover real-world case studies that uncover basic and advanced strategies in how to reach large audiences. You’ll learn how to understand and navigate the world of social media terminology and best practices and recognize the potential risks. – See more at: More information coming soon!
