9 – 11 a.m. | ASHRAE 2015 Introduction and Lighting Trends (2 IDCEC hours)

This seminar will present the different types of lightning design in existing building vs. new building, as well as lighting trends in commercial and residential areas.

Roger is a principal, senior electrical engineer and director at Applied Engineering Solutions Ltd. He has 26 years experience in electrical engineering. Roger’s long list of accreditations and memberships include Registered Professional Engineer in B.C., Alberta and New Brunswick, LEED AP, member of Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers, member of Building Industry Consulting Services Institute, member of the Illumination Engineering Society of North America, and member of the Canada Green Building Council. Before forming Applied Engineering Solutions in 2001 Roger worked at Crandall Engineering in Moncton and Reid Crowther & Partners in Victoria.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Building Code 2014 Update – Administration (2 IDCEC hours + HSW)

The course will help interior designers determine when building permits are required, what projects fall under Part 3 vs. Part 9, what letters of assurance are and when they are required, etc.

Now semi-retired, Nigel has a long history of involvement in building codes. He has been chief building inspector for the town of Sidney and Langford and director of building and planning in Oak Bay. Nigel studied building technology at BCIT and taught it at the Pacific Design Academy. He also helped write the B.C. Building and Fire Code. In addition, Nigel holds a Masters degree in business and is a board director at Woodwynn Farms and the Vancouver Island Safety Council.

1:30 – 3:30 p.m. | Building Code 2014 Update – Technical Changes (2 IDCEC hours + HSW)

Overview of 2014 BCBC changes including daycare requirements, ventilation, calculating thermal resistance and radon rough. The presenter will then give a technical refresher on occupancy and separations, accessibility and fire protection.

Presenter: Don Pedde

Don has 31 years of experience in the building industry – 8 years in the building trades, 7 in an architect’s office and 16 in local government. Don is the current chief building inspector for Langford. He is a registered Building Official with the Building’s Officials’ Association of B.C. and enjoys opportunities to educate about building regulations and codes.
