It’s amazing to think the Heritage House Tour is 15 years strong this year! Still our biggest fundraiser of the year, we have opened hundreds of beautifully restored and cared for heritage and character homes across the city in that time. We are proud of the long-term success and popularity of this tour, and as we also celebrate the 25th anniversary of VHF, we look forward to a great tour this year with a wonderful selection of homes.

In 2017, the tour once again offers a diverse array of homes, including a stunning First Shaughnessy home with some modern touches and a sustainably upgraded character home complete with a hive to help the local bee population. We’ll also visit Strathcona to see the completed renovation of Places That Matter site, the Walter and Mary Chan House, significant for it’s connection to SPOTA and the fight to save Strathcona from freeway development in the 1960s. We will also take a first look at the recent restoration of the principal rooms in B.T. Rogers’ dream home, Shannon, with a stop inside the gatehouse as well as a chance to take in the Italian garden. Shannon’s main rooms were restored to their 1930s glory using early photographs to select appropriate wallpaper, glass, paneling and plasterwork. There are many more wonderful homes to see on the 2017 tour, so we hope you will join us and help us celebrate 15 years of appreciating heritage!

NEW BUS OPTION! Hop on the bus and let us do the navigating! This year we are offering a limited number of bus tickets to enjoy the tour with a small group of heritage enthusiasts. Sit back and relax as we travel to all nine houses on tour. You will be able to hop on and off the bus while visiting the homes without the worry of parking, traffic or transit waits. We encourage you to bring snacks and a lunch, but we will be making a 30-minute lunch stop where food can be purchased. You will have approximately 20-30 minutes per house.
