About the Presentation
Wayfinding at its essence is about getting visitors from point A to B. But as we find the purpose and practice of our institutions quickly evolving, so too does the role of wayfinding. We are now inundated by new devices, technology, and software. These things have changed both our physical and psychological landscape with implications which are still evolving. So perhaps wayfinding can no longer be reduced to one simple goal of ’supplying directions’.
Wayfinding can broaden into experiential graphic design which can help facilitate physical and physiological connections that users yearn for. These connections are further expressed in feeling welcomed, creating identity, facilitating community engagement, and providing exhibition opportunities. Through examples in his own practice, Scot will explore the the ideas around wayfinding and its changing nature.
Following Scot’s presentation, participants will convene in groups to share ideas and discuss topics pertinent to library spaces.

SPEAKER BIO
Scot Geib, SEGD, is a senior environmental graphic and exhibit designer at
PUBLIC Architecture & Communications, an award winning design studio based in Vancouver. Scot’s institutional work has included wayfinding design for the UBC’s Koerner Library, Whistler Public Library, West Vancouver Memorial Library, KPU’s Wilson School of Design, UBC’s Faculty of the Arts and Adler University. He has also done exhibit design for Museum of Anthropology, Museum of Vancouver, Fort Calgary, New Westminster Museum & Archives, Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, and the Carrie M. McLain Museum in Nome, Alaska. Scot is a regular faculty member at Langara’s Design Formation Program since 2009.
