City Conversations | Rethinking and Repurposing Waste

November 9, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

In coordination with the launch of Asim Waqif’s new installation at Offsite, the Vancouver Art Gallery is pleased to co-present SFU City Conversations: Rethinking and Repurposing Waste.

According to the City of Vancouver’s Zero Waste 2040 statistics, residents, businesses and institutions threw away approximately 351,000 tonnes of garbage in 2015, most of which could have been conserved, reused, recycled or composted instead of being sent to a landfill or incinerator. What more can we be doing to reduce the amount of urban waste in Vancouver, and where are there opportunities to repurpose said waste?

On November 9th, 2017, join artist Asim Waqif for a conversation on rethinking waste. Joining Waqif will be Adam Corneil, Founder, Naturally Crafted, and Faisal Mirza, Senior Project Manager of Engineering Services with the City of Vancouver. These individuals view waste as a valuable resource and in some cases, have used the refuse of others to build their livelihoods. Hear about their paths to success in the circular economy, and then question, observe, and share your opinions on Vancouver’s system of waste management. It’s a conversation!

As always, feel free to bring your lunch, and come early to ensure a seat.
