Navigating the Intersection of Art & Design

September 27, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

By Anita Cirillo, Art Consultant, Gallery Jones & Shane O’Brien, Co-Owner, Gallery Jones.

What distinguishes design from art? What are some shared traits? How does one inform the other?

When thinking about creating a useful and aesthetically-sophisticated space, the function of art can be just as essential as the efficiency of the appliances or the stability of a chair. Understanding how art communicates and what makes it successful is key to maximizing the contribution art can make to an environment.

In this breakout session, two art experts from Gallery Jones will explore the defining characteristics of contemporary art; the difference between what you ask of art and of design; the added value of incorporating well-considered art (literal and metaphysical); and the practical steps to acquire and advise clients on their art collections.
