ASHRAE IES Standard 90.1 – 2016 Lighting Workshop

SEMINAR 1 Lighting in the ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2016 Building Energy Standard: Current requirements and the future.

Eric Richman, LC, FIES is a senior research engineer at the DOE Pacific Northwest National Laboratory currently involved in several lighting programs focusing on new technology energy efficiency, codes and standards, and control savings assessment. He has been involved in the development of lighting test methods and building standards for over 20 years including chairing the ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1 Lighting Subcommittee since 2003.

ABSTRACT

This presentation provides an overview of the lighting requirements in the 2016 version of Standard 90.1 as well as development background and information on application of the standard. Also provided are compliance notes/suggestions and a look at the expected future of development trends in the 90.1 standard.

SEMINAR 2 Minimum requirements for Lighting systems: Municipality outlook

Greg McCall, P.Eng is the City of Vancouver’s Energy Policy Specialist responsible for energy policy development, implementation and enforcement for new and existing buildings within the city. As a mechanical engineer, Mr. McCall’s experience in the consulting world, coupled with his experience in program development, allows him to balance the effects of city policy and develop systems that add value at both the policy and implementation levels. Mr. McCall developed Vancouver’s “energy checklists” and supports compliance enforcement by providing training to city permit review and inspections staff as well as industry designers and contractors. Vancouver’s recognized leadership in building energy has allowed Mr. McCall the opportunity to sit on several committees that guide energy policies at the provincial and national levels.

ABSTRACT

The presentation will be covering the City of Vancouver’s current enforcement process for lighting system design and installation requirements as well as how they may evolve in 2018 and 2019.
