Pedestrian oriented urban design employed in contemporary buildings in Metro Vancouver have arguably transformed the region into one of the most livable and walkable cities globally, garnering ratings in the Top 5 of World Cities consistently. But what does urban design mean to development projects in terms of municipal approvals, community “buy-in” and reputation? What are the key urban design principles that take projects from good to great, address municipal planning concerns and enhance a neighbourhood’s “sense of place”?

This Lunch ‘n Learn will give an introduction to the basics of urban design that can assist development professionals in their dialogue with municipal planners, as well give insight to marketing, real estate and other non-design consultants.

Tim Grant, Vice President, PCI Developments along with Ryan Bragg, Architect, Principal, Perkins and Will will be guest speakers giving a developer’s perspective on the role of urban design in their highly successful Marine Gateway project in Vancouver. Marine Gateway was a finalist in the ULI Global Awards of Excellence.
