Know the Code! Getting a handle on energy code requirements for tenant improvement projects

November 1, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 6:45 pm

$190

This in-depth seminar will provide interior designers with an understanding of the codes and standards that apply to tenant improvement and renovation projects and the means for compliance, wiith the focus on the City of Vancouver requirements.

Part 1 will provide an overview of the relevant sections of the Vancouver Building Bylaw (VBBL) and ASHRAE energy code, during which attendees will learn when it is necessary to incorporate energy efficient details such as receptacle control, switching, space lighting control and daylight harvesting into their designs.

Part 2 will address the topic of “energy triggers” for renovation projects, allowing designers to more easily recognize where the prescriptive requirements of the energy codes are applicable and to develop solutions for compliance. During the final hour, participants will learn how to complete the documentation necessary for a successful Building Permit application: (energy statements, lighting power density calculations, ASHRAE checklist) and when to involve engineers in the process.

PRESENTER: Sunny Ghataurah, AES Engineering

As lighting designers within the commercial building industry, Sunny Ghataurah and his firm AES Engineering have accumulated industry insights by working collaboratively with lighting manufacturers, the A&D community, developers and municipal governments. They provide an independent perspective as they balance form, function, cost, and sustainability on lighting projects. Sunny’s skills in designing electrical and architectural lighting systems have been applied to hundreds of buildings across the healthcare, education, hospitality, recreational, retail, and corporate office sectors and collecting a number of awards, most recently a 2015 Award of Excellence for Interior Lighting Design from the Illuminating Engineering Society.
