In March 2015, we sent out a Landscape Architecture Booth Design Competition to UBC students. Their task was to design a booth with the goal “to develop an inspiring and engaging booth design.. to draw people in with the booth design, which should look nothing like the typical trade show booth.”
The winning team’s design by Vanessa Goldgrub and Justin Benjamin accomplished our goals and so much more. They sourced and prepped all the materials and joined us at our office to assemble the booth with our team here… over many evenings and weekends!
My favorite part of the booth was its bat signal (symmetry logo.. ) on the conference room ceiling!
We had many of our exterior lighting brands participate with us at this event: Acclaim, Kim, Lamp, Ligman, SLV and FX Lighting. SLV provided additional products to accent the stage at the conference and to provide a door prize at the party.
The conference was held at the Fairmont hotel in Whistler BC, so we held a small get together at the Mallard bar to get to know the landscape architects better (which Illarion Gallent named the Event at the Duck.. hence the ticket image!)
The entire weekend was wonderful and we are so grateful to have met so many wonderful people. Being involved with BCSLA events was definitely a highlight of 2015 for us at Symmetry and we are looking forward to another year with them.
As for Vanessa and Justin, we have seen them many times throughout the year! They are now a part of our Symmetry family. They graduate this year from their Master’s of Landscape Architecture program at UBC and having worked with these amazing individuals, we can not give them enough praise.
